Namespace terminology

In the editor tree view, the functions in a namespace script are called "[Methods]". Aren't they simply plain functions or have I missed something?

They are indeed plain functions (or possibly operators), but in Object Orientation terminology, functions inside objects are traditionally called "methods". See for example here.
