CTRL via SSH or VNC
I installed APL(TTY) on a Raspberry PI which I access from windows 10 on a mac either through SSH from the command line or VNC, but CTRL characters do not go through either and I cannot use APPL(TTY) remotely. How can I get either SSH (preferably) or VNC to send the CTRL characters to APL on the RPI?

If you want to use the Dyalog APL tty interface on the Pi, details of what Dyalog recommends you should use can be found in the UNIX Installation and Configuration Guide (http://help.dyalog.com/18.0/#UNIX_IUG/PuTTY.htm). PuTTY is free to download, and I for one have been using it for upwards for 20 years. It is what I and others use in house to drive Dyalog APL.
In theory you can use any terminal emulator as long as it allows you to map keystrokes, supports UTF-8 characters and allows you to select a custom font. PuTTY ticks all these boxes.
You may need to configure the IME to support your keyboard language: take a look at https://www.dyalog.com/apl-font-keyboard.htm - and if that fails, please drop support@ a note.
You could also consider using RIDE, either by using Zero Footprint RIDE or by installing the full RIDE client on your PC. Zero Footprint RIDE is supplied with 17.1 onwards on the Pi (and other non-Windows platforms), and the full RIDE client can be downloaded from https://github.com/Dyalog/ride/releases/tag/v4.3.3463. This last link was correct as of 2020-01-13 - if you're reading this post some time later then there may be a more recent revision of RIDE 4.3 or even a later version of RIDE available.

Re: CTRL via SSH or VNC
Thank you Andy - downloaded PuTTY and it works perfectly
Also, checking the help link you sent, the topic just above (http://help.dyalog.com/18.0/#UNIX_IUG/A ... %20RDP.htm) states that VNC cannot be used from a windows machine
