Idea: Allow Next/Previous shortcuts within the Find dialog
This is a suggestion for Dyalog APL. When searching using the Find dialog (Edit, Find), if keyboard shortcuts have been defined for Next (NX) and Previous (PV), allow those shortcuts to work while still inside the Find dialog. (I happen to use F3 as the shortcut for Next and shift+F3 for Previous.) As it is now, those shortcuts are inactive when still inside the Find dialog. My proposal is that if you search for something in the Find dialog and it finds it, that if you then (or at any time while still in the Find dialog) press the shortcut for Next/Previous the Find dialog should close and the Next/Previous occurrence will be moved to. Of course, after that, if you continue to press the Next/Previous shortcut they will continue to move to the Next/Previous occurrence. Thanks for your consideration. / Rav

Hi Rav,
Are you searching within a single object in the Editor?
Have you tried the quick search field in the Edit window toolbar?
NX and PV work inside that.
Regards,
Vince

Thanks, Vince. Is there a keyboard shortcut to go to the quick search field? I have a keyboard shortcut Ctrl+F to do Search (SC), but that opens the Find dialog. Thanks.

Not really, but FT does the trick if you don't have additional subwindows like TreeView open.
Since the current Find dialog is entirely a subset of the Find/Replace dialog, I propose repurposing SC to jump to/from the QuickSearch and removing the Find dialog altogether.

Hi, Adám. Personally, I wouldn't want the Find dialog removed (I'd like to see it improved). But more importantly, if it was removed, how would you search in the session? There doesn't seem to be any QuickSearch there, and I search there quite frequently. / Rav

I also frequently search the session.
The current Find dialog is entirely a subset of the Find/Replace dialog which can be brought up everywhere with RP. Any improvements done to the Finddialog should happen to the Find/Replace dialog too.
